Nomination Process
Urey, Goldschmidt and Treibs Medal winners are made fellows automatically and a number are elected per year. Any member of the society can nominate a fellow. Nominations are sought and recommendations for election are made by the Fellows Selection Committee, which is comprised of eight people—four from the Geochemical Society and four from the EAG. This committee includes the president of each society.
The Board of Directors of the Geochemical Society and the Council of the EAG ratify the recommendation of the Selection Committee. No individual may be elected a Fellow while they are serving either on the Selection Committee or as a Council or Board member of the EAG or the Geochemical Society. The Selection Committee may not themselves nominate individuals but may actively solicit nominations from others. Members of the Selection Committee and the Council or Board may not vote on any nomination where there is a clear conflict of interest.
In the event that the EAG Council and the Geochemical Society Board differ over the ratification of a nomination, the Executive Committee of the Goldschmidt Forum (the Presidents and Vice Presidents of the EAG and Geochemical Society) will resolve the issue. Nominations must include a citation of no more than two pages describing the contribution(s) the individual has made to geochemistry and up to three letters of support from members of either society.
The Geochemical Fellows Committee includes:
- Chair: Douglas Rumble (Carnegie Geophysical Laboratory, USA)
